#Visual studio code themes codeI haven't settled on a code and UI theme yet (one and the same in VSC), but am fluctuating between them.Ītom One Light, pretty much a clone on the Atom light theme. #Visual studio code themes updateI (still) prefer light themes, and my theme of choice in Atom, one-o-eight syntax isn't available in Visual Studio Code (VSC), to be fair the Atom version hasn't had an update in a while either. Making Visual Studio Code Look Nice(r) Themes Since I first wrote that post some features in Atom changed, as did my needs, so this post won't stick entirely to the original. To do this, I refer mostly to the original post and recreate the same sub-headings and needs. On initial inspection, it's still more optimized for coding than writing, but I thought it was time I dug into to how it compared to Atom from a writer's perspective. Atom has vastly improved since that post, but still suffers from a lot of reliability, memory, and CPU issues, thanks to the fact it's built upon web technologies, not native code.Īlso since that post, Microsoft released Visual Studio Code, that, despite having similar origins to Atom, somehow feels more polished and is more performant. We are looking at increasing flexibility for managing tabs and documents through color coding and customizing your tabs. #Visual studio code themes windowsTo enable the system switching feature in Windows, please use the Task Scheduler in Windows to schedule your system theme switching. Please make sure both of these modes are toggled to the same setting so that Visual Studio can sync to the correct one. Visual Studio will then sync to your system’s Default Windows mode and app mode. Tools > Options > “Use system setting” dropdown. You can turn on this feature by navigating to the Tools -> Options menu, and under General -> Color Theme, select Use system setting. Visual Studio in Dark theme, Blue theme, and Task Scheduler in Windows. In case you are interested in picking which syncs to the Light and Dark themes in Windows, please upvote this Developer Community thread and share your feedback. If you have a Dark theme enabled for Windows, you will see a default Dark theme for Visual Studio. If you have a Light theme enabled for Windows, you will see a default Blue theme for Visual Studio. Set your Visual Studio theme to match Windows theme This is almost like dimming your lights at night to match your circadian rhythm. This means, if you’ve scheduled your Windows theme to change at a certain time, like sunset, your Visual Studio theme will change along with it. Our new theming capability helps you sync your Visual Studio theme with your Windows theme. We believe that there are many more capabilities we can provide that will further make VS more flexible for you to really make it your own, and we are excited for you to help us shape this journey! After talking with many developers, we learned that when there is little background light, shifting your theme to Night mode could help improve reading. Some developers have been telling us that they focus better with dim light at end the day , which can affect productivity.
